What are the Days of Understanding?

CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion’s Days of Understanding aims to support open dialogue on complex topics around diversity, equity and inclusion. Days of Understanding is an opportunity to further educate and engage team members while supporting inclusivity in the workplace. This program encourages thoughtful conversations in line with real-time issues and events.

Day One launches with an All Team Member Kick-Off Meeting where we will provide an update on our DEI journey. This session will also feature a guest speaker who will share his inspiring story. We will then hold numerous small group sessions throughout the next two days where team members will have an opportunity to learn, share and engage in candid conversations.

The CEO Action Pledge

CEO Action for Diversity and Inclusion was co-founded in 2017 on a shared belief that diversity, equity and inclusion is a societal issue, and that collaboration and bold action from the business community—especially CEOs—is vital to driving change at scale.

Brighton HPS is a proud signatory of the CEO Action Pledge.

CEO Action is now the largest business-led initiative to advance DEI in the workplace, bringing together more than 2,400 CEOs who have pledged to:

Cultivate environments that support open dialogue on complex—and often difficult—conversations around diversity, equity and inclusion

Share best-known diversity, equity and inclusion programs/initiatives—as well as those that have been unsuccessful

Implement and expand unconscious bias education and training

Engage boards of directors when developing and evaluating diversity, equity and inclusion strategies

Seth Schermer (He/They)
Seth Schermer is the Chief Operating Officer & Chief Development Officer at LGBTQ+ Victory Fund and LGBTQ+ Victory Institute. Seth has spent his career advancing organizations that focus on equality, access and social justice issues. Prior to joining Victory, Seth was Vice President of Philanthropy for the U.S. Soccer Foundation, where he oversaw the organization’s fundraising, marketing and communications programs. During this time, he successfully worked to diversify and increase institutional funding resources and helped raise the visibility of the Foundation, its programs and impact. Seth served as Senior Director of The Optical Society Foundation (OSA Foundation), where he focused on the international advancement of youth science education and support of career development opportunities for graduate students living in developing nations. Seth also worked at the American Association for Justice (AAJ) as its Director of Development. In this role, he oversaw the major gifts, political and PAC fundraising programs.

A variety of small group sessions are scheduled for September 13 and 14. These sessions are designed to help team members understand privilege, challenge stereotypes, build empathy and discover shared experiences.

Tips When Attending a Group Session: To build stronger connections and make this feel like an in person session, cameras are required for this session. It is imperative to the success of the program to be able to make this experience feel as if we are sitting together and seeing each other. There is limited space in each of the breakout sessions. To allow for the safe space, and respect confidentiality, these sessions will not be recorded.
